New Poll!

Hey Overlook! I know that it’s a little early for predictions, but I’ve decided to put up a poll anyway.
Who do you think will win the NBA finals? Be sure to cast your vote on the right! Let’s get some friendly competition going in the comments section!
Wild Bill’s Beignets & Bikes
This…is different. Wild Bill’s has a kind of Hard Rock Café flavor with a hometown feel…and bikes. LOL. Bikes are the name of the game. When walking through the door, you can’t help but notice the motorcycle hanging above you, or the tables made from hubcaps. Those were pretty cool, actually.
But Wild Bill’s isn’t all about it’s décor. The food is pretty good too.
The restaurants brings a little bit of New Orleans to downtown Nashville. I’m a huge fan of beignets straight from the N.O., and these come a close second. The house specialty are the banana beignets covered with caramel or chocolate sauce. YUM!
The menu isn’t very extensive, but the food is delish. Try the Fried Fresh Cajun Shrimp platter. It has just enough spice to give it a kick, but not enough to make you tear up from the heat. There’s also a wine bar for those wine lovers out there.
So when you get a chance, check out Wild Bill’s, it’s sure to be a treat.
Be Happier at Work – It’s Not Impossible

Let’s face it; there are very few people that are happy in their jobs. Companies are cutting positions left and right, leaving the remaining workers to pick up and sometimes do the work of 2 or 3 other people. It doesn’t seem quite fair, but in this economy who wants to complain? Instead of suffering in silence, Glamour Magazine’s Alisha Davis gets advice from fashion world guru Christine Beauchamp in the September 2009 issue on 7 rules for being happier at work.
- Speak Up – share your ideas. If you are new to a job or industry you may be a little shy or overthink your idea. Be bold. You never know what can come of it.
- Have a life – be present. When you are at work, give it 100%. When you leave, leave the office at the office and enjoy your life outside of work.
- Don’t be a fashion victim – dress professionally, yet comfortably. This is a delicate balancing act but it can be done.
- See the big picture – don’t get caught up in the minutae of the day to day tasks. See them as the steps toward your career goals.
- Consider challenges a way to up your game – always approach challenges as a positive.
- Find inspiration, and keep it close – a picture, a quote, even a rabbit’s foot will work if it keeps you focused on your goal.
- Work hard, have fun and be kind.
What Kind of Shoe Runner are you?

I have never been a runner, but lately, the thought has been crossing my mind more and more. I figured that once I was ready, I would just head up to my old high school track and take off. I didn’t realize that there were other things of importance that I have to consider before my routine. Specifically, what kind of running shoe to get.
Being the amateur that I am, I believed that all I had to do was go to my nearest shoe store, buy some cross trainers, and be good. Nope. It turns out that if you are actually serious about running, you should be fitted for the very best exercise shoe for you by a professional.
Don’t just go for the most popular, colorful, or stylish shoe. Make sure you actively do your research and find what is most comfortable for you, and what will most support your foot type. A lot of running injuries are the result of wearing the wrong type of shoes. Right now, my injuries will probably sustain from wearing too many high heels throughout my lifetime.
What about you? Do you have a particular type of shoe that you like to run in? Are you partial to a particular brand?
Things to do this weekend

With such wonderful weather ahead, who would want to spend it inside? There are so many wonderful things to partake in!
Of course the Nashville Film Festival will bring in the numbers. For the kiddies and the kiddies at heart, you have the Eakin Elementary School putting on it’s annual carnival on campus at 2500 Fairfax Ave. It’s $5 per child and $15 max per family.
Tonight, Cheekwood opens its door from 7-10 pm for its annual Highballs and Hydrangeas fundraiser. It’s $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Rain or Shine. You may also want to attend the Sounds’ home game opener against the Iowa Cubs at 7:05.
There’s plenty more to choose from; the hard part is choosing which to do first!

iPad Fever!

It’s either iPad fever, or this guy is delirious. It may even be both. Everyone knows that the long awaited release of Apple’s iPad is tomorrow, April 3rd. No one knows this better than New York native, Greg Packer. He’s been waiting in line since TUESDAY for his iPad. He even slept overnight in Penn Station! Now that’s dedication.
To each their own I guess. What do you think about Greg’s dedication? Would you do the same thing?
Social Media isn’t a fad…it’s a revolution!

For all of you naysayers out there that thought social media mediums such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter were just fads and would die out in a few years, THINK AGAIN! Social media had revolutionized the way that people communicate with each other. Think about it. Even at this very moment, you’re using a social media outlet: you are reading what I have written on a blog. Blogs get at least 200 K postings a day! Can you imagine the information and the creative thoughts that are being typed up right now? I know, it’s mind boggling.
The best advice that I can give you in this day and age is to get on board if you’re not already, (which isn’t many people, I’m sure). The social media revolution is going to continue to grow, so it’s best to jump on the bandwagon now, so that you’re not left in the dark in the years to come.
Check out the video below to see just how amazing the new social media revolution is:
Know Thy Friends

How do you define the word ‘friend’? I’m not talking about Facebook friends or Twitter followers, but the people who you can depend on, spend time with, and tell your secrets to. These days, it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish that fine line between a ‘true friend’ and a ‘close acquaintance’.
Events in my life recently have forced me to actually take a good look into the relationships that I have with the people around me. In all actuality, I believe that the amount of people that I can actually call a true ‘friend’, only goes as far as my right hand. Sure, there’s a good amount of people out there who I’m close to, but those friends are grouped into certain categories in my book. Many of you can probably relate. These categories don’t say anything bad about the person whatsoever, you just need to know the kind of people that you spend your time with.
(My) Categories of friends:
-Your Best/Truest Friends: Those who you know will have your back in any situation. You can tell them anything, do anything for them, and they will do the same for you. You don’t have to worry about your secrets leaking with them. And if you have a disagreement, you’ll eventually make up and the friendship will be even stronger afterwards.
-Your Friends: These are the people who you can count on to go out with, travel with, tell certain things to, and they will ultimately stick up for you in most situations. You would probably have to watch what you say to certain individuals as you never know who they’re best/truest friends are, and they’re loyalties are higher to them.
-Close Acquaintances: You’ll go out with them, and speak with them on the phone on occasion, but you wouldn’t tell all of your personal/private secrets/stories to them. They may come through in a pinch, but I wouldn’t put all of your eggs in that basket. I also wouldn’t put them in the same room as someone that you’ve set your eyes on.
-Acquaintances: You know them. That’s about how far this goes, lol. You’ll have a conversation with them, but you wouldn’t trust them with private facts about your life. You definitely wouldn’t leave them in the same room as someone you’re interested in, or your significant other for that matter.
Even if your friends don’t fall into these categories, there are certain categories that they may fall under: the funny one, the athletic one, the shy one, the DIVA, the odd one, the smart one, the nice one, the outrageous one, the one you wouldn’t leave in the same room as your man/woman, the prankster, and the one who knows EVERYBODY.
The last one is my favorite. You can go anywhere with them and be guaranteed a good time.
What about you? Do any of your friends fall into the above categories? Do you have your own categories?

I’m ready for sundresses and sandals! The arrival of spring is nothing less than exciting to me, seeing as tomorrow begins the (hopefully warm) season of new. My advice to you is to get out there and enjoy! Don’t sit inside on this beautiful weekend! Fly a kite, play disc golf, or even grab an ice cream cone on a stroll.
What are you going to do this weekend?
Cool Video Clip of the Day

Hey Overlook! As you’ve hit that mid-point in your day, you may need a little pick me up for whatever reason. I’ve found a clip for you! It’s not a funny clip, but it’s kind of cool.
Do you know about the trick where you rip a table cloth from under the dishes there, without dropping or breaking them? Well this guy performed that trick to the extreme. BMW. tv has it where there is a very long/elaborate table set up. They attach an end of the tablecloth to a motorcycle, and…you’d just have to watch and see!
