Know Thy Friends

How do you define the word ‘friend’? I’m not talking about Facebook friends or Twitter followers, but the people who you can depend on, spend time with, and tell your secrets to. These days, it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish that fine line between a ‘true friend’ and a ‘close acquaintance’.
Events in my life recently have forced me to actually take a good look into the relationships that I have with the people around me. In all actuality, I believe that the amount of people that I can actually call a true ‘friend’, only goes as far as my right hand. Sure, there’s a good amount of people out there who I’m close to, but those friends are grouped into certain categories in my book. Many of you can probably relate. These categories don’t say anything bad about the person whatsoever, you just need to know the kind of people that you spend your time with.
(My) Categories of friends:
-Your Best/Truest Friends: Those who you know will have your back in any situation. You can tell them anything, do anything for them, and they will do the same for you. You don’t have to worry about your secrets leaking with them. And if you have a disagreement, you’ll eventually make up and the friendship will be even stronger afterwards.
-Your Friends: These are the people who you can count on to go out with, travel with, tell certain things to, and they will ultimately stick up for you in most situations. You would probably have to watch what you say to certain individuals as you never know who they’re best/truest friends are, and they’re loyalties are higher to them.
-Close Acquaintances: You’ll go out with them, and speak with them on the phone on occasion, but you wouldn’t tell all of your personal/private secrets/stories to them. They may come through in a pinch, but I wouldn’t put all of your eggs in that basket. I also wouldn’t put them in the same room as someone that you’ve set your eyes on.
-Acquaintances: You know them. That’s about how far this goes, lol. You’ll have a conversation with them, but you wouldn’t trust them with private facts about your life. You definitely wouldn’t leave them in the same room as someone you’re interested in, or your significant other for that matter.
Even if your friends don’t fall into these categories, there are certain categories that they may fall under: the funny one, the athletic one, the shy one, the DIVA, the odd one, the smart one, the nice one, the outrageous one, the one you wouldn’t leave in the same room as your man/woman, the prankster, and the one who knows EVERYBODY.
The last one is my favorite. You can go anywhere with them and be guaranteed a good time.
What about you? Do any of your friends fall into the above categories? Do you have your own categories?

Moving to Overlook?

We’re happy to welcome any and everyone home here at Overlook. We would also like to make your moving experience as easy and stress free as possible. Moving can be a pain with trying to move all of your belongings to a new location. Many times, you end up having more items than you initially thought, and after throwing out what you don’t need, you still end up with a boat load of stuff.
Well, we’ve found a few tips to aid you in your relocation.
Tip #1: Use smaller boxes. Large boxes may hold more things, but they get heavy fast. Try to keep all boxes under 50 lbs to keep them manageable.
Tip #2: Keep all parts and pairs together. Curtain rod hangers, mirror hooks, screws, and other little hardware pieces should be kept together in some sort of baggy and taped to the back of the item they go with.
Tip #3: Take Inventory. Label each box with what’s in it, and what room it belongs to. You may even want to create a spreadsheet that details exactly what is in what box, to make it easier to find later.
Tip #4: Use fabrics such as socks and linens to fill space in boxes that you would normally use bubble wrap for. This way, it cuts back on having to buy extra packing materials.
These are only a few, the rest can be found in the article above. We hope that this helps you when moving to Overlook Apartment Homes.
Welcome home!

I’m ready for sundresses and sandals! The arrival of spring is nothing less than exciting to me, seeing as tomorrow begins the (hopefully warm) season of new. My advice to you is to get out there and enjoy! Don’t sit inside on this beautiful weekend! Fly a kite, play disc golf, or even grab an ice cream cone on a stroll.
What are you going to do this weekend?
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

You don’t have to be Irish to take part in this green holiday! Just don your green (so you don’t get pinched
) and head on down to downtown Nashville to partake in the many clover infested parties the local bars and pubs have to offer!
I heard that McCreary’s Irish Pub & Eatery has an excellent Guinness Chocolate Cake that is just the treat to please the Irish in us all on this day.
Another good choice would be Mulligans. The theme of “Good Times, Good Food, Good Spirits” definitely holds true for this charming little pub in downtown, especially on St. Patrick’s Day. Tonight the Def Leprechaun Band and Joe Byrne and Trooperstown, will offer live music for the establishment to get your in the mood to dance an Irish Jig or two. They serve some traditional Irish foods, as well as foods with Irish-y vocabulary to make you feel as if you in the Isle of Green.
Do you know of any other parties going on?
Cool Video Clip of the Day

Hey Overlook! As you’ve hit that mid-point in your day, you may need a little pick me up for whatever reason. I’ve found a clip for you! It’s not a funny clip, but it’s kind of cool.
Do you know about the trick where you rip a table cloth from under the dishes there, without dropping or breaking them? Well this guy performed that trick to the extreme. BMW. tv has it where there is a very long/elaborate table set up. They attach an end of the tablecloth to a motorcycle, and…you’d just have to watch and see!

Open 20 Years and Still Serving

Hometown favorites. They always have a certain charm about themselves, don’t they? The best thing about the ones that last 20 years or longer is that you know that you will receive quality food and service as soon as you step inside. That’s the main reason’s why places like Swett’s and Pie Wagon stay open so long. Take a glance into a few restaurants around the Nashville area that have been around for quite some time.
Do any of these restaurants stir up any old memories? Have you ever heard of some of them in your lifetime?
DIY Decorating Tips

I love all kinds of Do-it-yourself projects! I’ve spent years, and hours of my time making anything from a mirror frame made of pearl beads, or a flower vase/fish bowl for my beta. So, when I find new instructions on websites, I just have to try them. One really interesting one that I found is for CD case art work:
STEP 1: On a computer, open a high-resolution photo of your choice in an image-editing program like Adobe Photoshop. Resize the picture to 26½” x 18¼”. Using a selection tool, divide the image into twenty 5 3/8″ x 4 5/8″ squares, then digitally cut and paste each square into a separate 5 3/8″ x 4 5/8″ file.
STEP 2: Print out each document onto 5″ x 7″ photo paper. Trim off any white space.
STEP 3: Pop out the interior section (the round piece that the CD snaps onto) of 20 standard jewel cases. Also remove the paper inserts.
STEP 4: Carefully trace one photo segment onto a piece of thin cardboard and cut; repeat 19 times. Use double-sided tape to attach one piece of cardboard to the back of every photo segment; then slip each segment, image side up, into a CD case and close it. Repeat until every photo sits inside a case.
STEP 5: With Velcro tape or mounting strips, affix the cases to the wall one at a time, making sure to arrange them so the photo lies in the right order and the cases almost touch.
Do you have a favorite DIY project?

It’s finally Friday! It’s the end of the work week and I can already feel the rest and relaxation that’s coming my way! The forecast has promised to be beautiful this weekend, and I can’t wait to get outside! Sure, it’s going to be a little chilly at times, but that hasn’t stopped me before! It’s going to be me, my puppy Patches, and my nephews hanging out and having fun. Who knows, I may even fire up the grill! And yes, Overlook, you’re invited.
What are you doing this weekend?
Enough is Enough!

I’m tired of the cold. I want it to go away and not come back for a very, very long time. The best thing that I can say about the Winter months right now is that they are no flying insects buzzing around. Well, no bees. But enough is enough! I am continually counting down the days until March 20!
Wondering why this winter has felt colder than most? That’s because it has been. The last time it was this cold, Music City USA was fighting the chill in corduroy bell-bottoms. This winter’s temperatures were the coldest since 1978-79.
That’s over 30 years ago! Three’s Company was still airing new episodes! I, for one, didn’t need the repeat. I can appreciate record breaking feats, but this is one that could’ve stayed put.
I can’t wait until I can enjoy the great outdoors again without fear of frostbite!
How have you felt about the cold weather? Have you loved it, or are you ready for Spring?
